Guardian Programme
Would your family consider welcoming one of our puppies or dogs into your home as part of our guardian programme?
We are hoping to expand our breeding programme over the next couple of years and so we will be keeping some of the puppies from our forthcoming litters. We want all of our dogs to be essentially pets first and a valued member of the family. We are not interested in running a formal kennel style programme where dogs are kept outside in kennels until their breeding careers are over. Instead, we will be expanding our guardian programme.
The guardian programme means that a family agrees to take one of our puppies or older dogs into their home as part of their family. The dog comes at no cost to the family. He or she then returns to us for breeding duties. Once the dog is retired from our breeding programme, we pay all costs to have them desexed. At this point, the formal ownership of the dog transfers to the guardian family. Whilst the dog is in our breeding programme, we pay for all breeding related expenses as well as their annual vet check and dog registration. We expect our guardian dogs to be well cared for regarding grooming, training, veterinary needs, diet and general care. A contract is signed between Taieri Spoodles and the guardian family. Guardian girls’ families are welcome to visit their guardian dog when they are with us raising their litter of puppies.
We believe that this is the best way for our breeding dogs to be cared for. We raise our puppies in the heart of our home and we believe that our breeding dogs should live in a similar home environment.
At present, we have adult dogs in our guardian programme who are already part of the breeding programme. We also now have puppies who, all being well, will also become part of the breeding programme when they are adults. We are hugely grateful to the families for taking such good care of our dogs. It is heartening to see how much they are loved and have become a valued family member.
If you are interested in becoming a guardian family, please do get in touch with me to discuss further. For practicalities, we can only consider families who are in the Dunedin and Mosgiel areas.
